This represents a net decrease of 48 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 796 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 227 Bcf above the five-year average of 1,816 Bcf. At 2,043 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range. Working gas in storage was 3,039 Bcf as of Friday, January 10, 2020, according to EIA estimates. This represents a net decrease of 109 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 494 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 149 Bcf above the five-year average of 2,890 Bcf. At 3,039 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range. EIA uses Form EIA-912, Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report, to collect data on end-of-week working gas in storage at the company and regional level from a sample of all underground natural gas storage operators. The regions used for weekly reporting were formally the East, West and Producing regions. EIA forecasts that net injections during the refill season (April 1–October 31) will bring the total working gas in storage to 4,029 Bcf, which, if realized, would be the largest monthly inventory level on record.
